Contemporary House Extension in Purley Designed for Family Living

House Extension in Purley with Thin-Framed Glazing

Located in the heart of Purley, this semi-detached home was in need of a thoughtful transformation. The existing property felt tired and outdated, with a particular challenge: a dark, enclosed central section that lacked natural light.

Our design approach focused on revitalising the home through a contemporary yet sensitive intervention. A ground-floor rear extension was introduced to create a more open and spacious living environment. The new layout supports modern family life, offering an open-plan arrangement that accommodates both intimate family moments and larger gatherings.

This extension forms the heart of the home, seamlessly uniting the kitchen, dining, and living areas into a generous, open-plan space. Designed with a contemporary architectural language, it features full-height glazing and tall sliding patio doors, connecting the interior to the garden and flooding the space with natural light. A large fixed skylight has been incorporated to capture soft evening sunlight, ensuring the kitchen remains bright and inviting throughout the day.

Having completed the concept design and successfully secured planning permission, we are now progressing through the technical design stage, preparing detailed construction drawings for Building Control approval. This phase involves coordination of structural engineering, drainage, mechanical and electrical systems, and the specification of finishes and fittings. Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2026, and we are excited to bring this transformative project to life—creating a sustainable, practical, and beautiful home that will serve the family for years to come.
